HOW DOES TOGETHER SOUND?
A blue one with a cape of sleeves. A gray warrior with paper muscles. A mega-yellow magician, and a red hundred-string. Oh, and of course Guy! As long as it goes well… When they combine their special powers, something happens that only happens once every one hundred and four years! Before you know it you are somewhere else. You hear music. It is coming closer. Four musicians play happily, hopping, stumbling. Together they celebrate something special. The four of us together, that's a party!
The four top musicians in the newly founded Oorkaan Ensemble play theatrical concerts without words. They combine different cultures and music traditions. They tell nothing more than the story you can hear from the music. That's hot Whoop Whoop(s) a whole journey, full of Turkish sounds, Mozart and more. And it ends with a party.
Whoop Whoop(s) in co-directed by Caecilia Thunnissen (winner Yamaward 2020) and Yorick Stam, is a cheerful theatrical family concert for everyone aged 4-104, full of (un)recognizable sounds, movement and humour.

Oorkaan's mission is twofold: to introduce as many children as possible to classical music, and to break open the Western European canon of classical music. Oorkaan refers to this as 'global classical music'. The Council for Culture on this ambition: 'The Council appreciates the strong motivation expressed in the plan to program broadly and to abandon the traditional division of music genres. The term 'global classical music' does justice to a more inclusive canon, appropriate to contemporary society.'

On the stage
In its 20th anniversary, Oorkaan presents her own ensemble, with four multi-talented, sparkling young musicians of international top level. A beautiful sublimation of everything Oorkaan has built up in 20 years of artistic signature and playing style. harpist Michela Zanoni, clarinetist Michele Mazzini, bayanist Robbrecht Van Cauwenberghe and percussionist Veysel Dzhesur together form the Oorkaan Ensemble.
They are trained according to the The Oorkaan method to theatrically performing musicians. They play all the music by heart and thus create space for theatrical performance. The repertoire they play has a double mission: to introduce as many small and large ears as possible to music performed live and to break open the canon of global classical music. Caecilia Thunnissen previously put together the ensembles for Kriebel (winner YAMawards 2020 in the Best Small Ensemble category), the Trio Diamanda for Strange Streken and added two of the three friends to the Julian Schneemann & Friends ensemble for Caravan. She also directed a number of family concerts with the NKO and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, including Romeo & Julia (2018). caeciliathunnissen.com
As a director, trained at the Toneelacademie Maastricht, is looking for Yorick Stam where music meets theater – or vice versa. His graduation directing was the opera Bluebeard's Castle by Béla Bartók. Yorick directed as a freelancer, worked with the newly founded music theater company De Bunch, gave acting lessons to opera singers at the Maastricht Conservatory, and regularly participated in productions by Opera Spanga. As a musician he writes and sings Dutch music. www.yorickstam.nl

The Oorkaan Ensemble is presented in the jubilee year of 20 years Oorkaan. This is a long cherished dream come true. A sublimation of everything we've built up in 20 years of artistic signature and playing style. The proverbial icing on the anniversary cake.
Education
Oorkaan offers receptive school concerts in various theaters and concert halls. The school receives interactive online teaching material in advance to prepare for the concert visit in the classroom.
