Krabat – Master of the Black Mill
How does it sound?
In the dark Kosel swamp, Krabat and a group of other boys work for the master of the black mill. They are under the spell of his magic power. It is wonderful to fly through the sky like a raven in the summer, but this happiness does not last long. When autumn comes, Krabat discovers a horrible secret. It seems impossible to escape until, deep in the night, he hears a girl singing. She teaches him a power stronger than black magic.
Krabat is an exciting musical theater performance about friendship and love for everyone ages 7 and up, in which musicians, players and puppets bring the magical world of the black mill to life. Based on the world-famous children's book Master of the Black Mill (Krabat) by Otfried Preussler.
Premiere: October 4, 2014 at De Krakeling, Amsterdam.

Ulrike Quade concept/direction
As artistic director of the Ulrike Quade Company, Ulrike Quade produces and directs visual theater performances, using puppets as real-life antagonists. Constantly seeking new forms, Ulrike often collaborates in (inter)national co-productions with other artists and institutions, including Jo Strømgren Kompani, Nicole Beutler Projects and The Glasshouse/Kees Roorda. Ulrike Quade Company produced the following performances: The Painters - Munch & van Gogh (2013), Antigone (2012), Dog's Love (2011), The Wall (2008), The Second Goodbye (2008) and Me Too - A side show (2007). Together with Oorkaan she previously made the successful children's music performance Lisa's Big Trip (2009).

Make your own Krabat doll!
What do you need. Split pins, satay sticks or long toothpicks, scissors, tape and glue.
*Split pens can be purchased at office supply stores.
How it works. Download the cutouts of the Krabat doll below.
1. Cut out Krabat's arms, legs, wings and body from the paper. Save them well!
2. Do you see all the holes? Pierce the cotter pins into the holes. Note! Line up the holes in the correct order and poke the pins in. See the example for the correct shape.
3. When all the cotter pins are in your own Crabat, bend over the back of the pins.
4. Stick the wooden skewers on the back of Krabat with tape or glue.
Now you have your own moving Krabat with magic powers. Teach him to fly!
