Youth music company Oorkaan plays theatrical concerts with professional musicians for a young audiences. Oorkaan lets as many small and large ears as possible explore the infinite world of music discover. Classical music from around the world past and present, sounds in theatrical and surprising forms. Like a concert, an Oorkaan performance is (almost) without words and there are only musicians on stage. You are looking out for your ears!

For twenty years, Oorkaan has specialized in creating youth music performances at a high international level. Oorkaan is structurally subsidized by the Performing Arts Fund and Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.

About education at Oorkaan
Oorkaan's mission is that all children in the Netherlands have the opportunity to experience the world of live performed classical music. Therefore, Oorkaan plays about 40 concerts a year for school children who come to the concert hall or theater with their class. The students and their teachers are prepared for the concert visit with teaching packages and fringe programs. With this preparation we offer a nice mix of learning to listen to live performed music and active music participation. In addition, Oorkaan finds it important to make a link to extra-musical (social) themes in the performance in the contact with the target group.

Our relationships with schools and educational institutions are very important to Oorkaan. More and more often we connect our activities with extracurricular activities throughout the country. In this way we also want to reach the parents and guardians around our young audience and we are broadly embedded in society. As initiator and creator of the collaborative project "The Chain", Oorkaan is a forerunner in the classical music sector in terms of inclusive programming and diverse performers on stage.

About the role of Education Coordinator
As Education Coordinator you are the specialist in your field in the Oorkaan team. With the educational programs you develop, you will make the connection between the target group and the artistic product of Oorkaan. Because you will be part of a small but decisive team you will actually work together with all departments, but the manager marketing communications, the manager bookings and the artistic team will be your direct colleagues. Oorkaan really sees education as part of the artistic process. It is an independent position where there is a lot of room for innovative projects and where you may think outside the box of music education and where creativity is stimulated. We expect our new colleague to have a vision on cultural education that complements Oorkaan's mission and vision. Being connected to both metropolitan and provincial social issues such as diversity and inclusion is important to perform this position well.

Your work mainly consists of:
- Development and implementation of educational programs around new and existing productions;
- Establish and maintain Oorkaan's contacts and networks in the field of education;
- Coordination of existing and newly established projects including budget preparation and management;
- Liaison with intermediaries, umbrella organizations culture/education, cooperation partners, schools and programmers (concert) venues;
- Keeping up with developments in own field and discussing new developments with the team and management.

Your profile:
- You have demonstrable knowledge of and experience in arts and cultural education, preferably in the discipline of music, with at least HBO working and thinking level with relevant education.
- You can work in both word and writing in Dutch and English.
- You are informed and have current knowledge of the cultural and educational field at the municipal and national level.
- You are communicative and a team player, but also enjoy working independently on various educational projects.
- You are initiative and inquisitive and consider yourself a bridge builder with an inclusive network and/or opportunities to expand it.
- You have a personal and vision of inclusion and diversity from your (work) experience.

We offer
- A fine workplace in the Kempenaerstudio in Amsterdam-West.
- Part of a small decisive team.
- A one-year contract (no ZZP assignment) with the intention of extension, salary based on the Collective Labor Agreement for Theatre and Dance in scale VI depending on education, age and relevant work experience.
