Cello Warriors
WHAT DOES COURAGE SOUND LIKE? Do you know the 8 Cello warriors? They are strong, supple, and dexterous. Armed with cello and bow, they go to war. They meet every challenge they encounter on their journey: the great danger, the unknown, and the bear on the road. The Cello Warriors make their bows clatter like swords. They strike a maze of unknown sounds from their cellos in which the opponent gets lost. With humor and exciting music, the Cello Warriors move gracefully through battle. What power do you need to be a warrior?
Cello Warriors is a 3-part series of 3 short concerts, directed by 3 choreographers, about being tough and vulnerable, winning and losing, and the power of music. Featuring compositions by Bartók, Ligeti and Glass.
Cello Warriors premiered at the Cello Biennale Amsterdam. The educational project The Warrior Formation is a co-production of the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, Oorkaan, Cello Octet Amsterdam and the Prinses Christina Concours for several elementary school in Amsterdam, Zwolle, The Hague and Eindhoven. This project has been made possible thanks to the Anner Bijlsma Award and The Reinforcement Foundation.
