Skygge Spill (Shadow Music)

Skyggespill

YAMAWARDS 2018 'BEST PRODUCTION OF THE YEAR' & 'BEST LARGE ENSEMBLE' WINNER

When a boy goes to bed, his room comes to life. Shadows creep out from under his bed, trees grow up along the walls, and amidst all that magic and creepiness, the boy sees something wondrously red shoot by. He walks into a wondrous-sounding world where monsters try to keep him away from their most precious secret.
Does the boy overcome his fear and manage to outwit the shadows?

Starting point for Skygge Spill (Shadow Music) is the famous piece Verklärte Nacht by Arnold Schoenberg. In this theatrical concert without words, the piece is made accessible to young ears in a visual and poetic way. On stage are only the musicians of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. As they play the music from memory, they create the story.

Skygge Spill (Shadow Music) is an international co-production between Oorkaan, Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Kulturtanken.

There will be 2 versions of Skyggespill made: a small hall version with a sextet of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra (including conductor Terje Tønnesen) and a large hall version with the entire orchestra.

Skygge Spill (Shadow Music) is made possible in part by the Performing Arts Fund as part of the Fast Forward Project and by the Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.

Fast Forward

Fast Forward is a program of the Performing Arts Fund that focuses on the development of talent in an international context. Fast Forward offers talented makers the opportunity to work on a performance or concert under the wings of a leading foreign producer. They can also present themselves with the final result on international stages. Oorkaan has been selected by the Performing Arts Fund for this project and has decided to enter the trajectory with director Dagmar Slagmolen.

Within Fast Forward, Oorkaan collaborates with Concerts Norway/Kulturtanken. From the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, they are responsible for ensuring that all Norwegian schoolchildren can regularly attend a concert at school.

Together we are developing the following theatrical concerts, among others: Feledragen (Dragon violin) a solo for Norwegian all-round musician/artist Andreas Ljones and the project Skygge Spill (Shadow Music) with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. The Performing Arts Fund visited us in Oslo in early 2017 during the projects' preparations. Below is an impression and a conversation with Dagmar and Matias Hilmar Iversen of Kulturtanken/Concerts Norway who, like Dagmar, believes that through music children learn to understand the world better.
