The final crown
Behind a high wall sits a mysterious king wearing a glittering crown. Who really calls the shots in the kingdom of the king and his subjects? In a playful world full of music and surprises, the audience discovers what it feels like to be on top, to be left out, or to come together to make a difference.
The audience doesn't just watch; it becomes part of an exciting adventure in which walls may crumble, crowns may lose their luster, and a revolution may be closer than anyone imagined.
Using the crown as a symbol of power, director Wieger Meulenbroek and the musicians of the Oorkaan Trio humorously help the young audience understand what status means.
For Orpheus Theater Apeldoorn's summer festival Kinderkaravaan 2026, Oorkaan and the Oorkaan Trio will create a family production to be performed outdoors in city parks in and around Apeldoorn in the Netherlands. 2026 is a Crowning Year for Oorkaan: Oorkaan will then celebrate its 25th anniversary and the Oorkaan Ensemble its 5th anniversary. The generous background and context of Apeldoorn with Palace of the Loo fits well with this Crown Year and this new production.
At Oorkaan, circularity is central to the design, choice of materials, and production of sets, costumes, props, and lighting. We use sustainable methods as much as possible, incorporating reusable and/or recycled materials.
