Bird Child and Mammoth Tree
Step into a garden of wishes where trees whisper, the wind carries stories, and the earth reveals its secrets. An ancient sequoia tree and a brave bird child meet. During the bird child's journey to Africa, the tree watches over him through an invisible network of roots—an ode to nature, earth, and friendship.
Oorkaan presents a unique cross-media production with spoken word: a theatrical concert for everyone, in which music and narration merge seamlessly. You will hear our musicians from the Oorkaan Ensemble, together with the voice and lyrics of Jeannine Valeriano, in a performance full of imagination and magic.
Stay tuned, because it will be something special.

About lyricist and spoken word actress Jeannine Valeriano
Jeannine Valerianois a poet, spoken word performer and singer. With a particular sound of her own, she narrates emotions: between speaking, singing and sound language. Her broad artistic background allows her to use her voice, in original ways, to blend and communicate different disciplines. She distinguishes herself with her own work in storytelling that is musical. Her personal background is equally diverse, she is rooted in five continents.
Valeriano wrote the text for the radio play ‘Bird Child and Mammoth Tree’ (2025) for and by Oorkaan. She has written libretti, works for performance and radio plays and has been a performer, voice actress and singer in them.
She wrote and was performer in, among others, a series of her own project Spoken Beat Night* (2010-2019 - together with her team; Maarten Ornstein, Paul Palessen, Flo and Ckoe).
Valeriano began her artistic career as an actress with renowned youth and adult companies. She then developed that voice of her own, by studying spoken word with a scholarship for the Performing Arts Fund in London (2004) with, among others: Moniza Alvi (Poetry School London), Malika Booker and Aoife Mannix.
* Spoken Beat Night was a Zeebelt production, and was supported by Stichting Melanie, the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, Fonds 21, Stichting Lira, Norma fonds, Cultuurfonds, SNS Reaal fonds and the VSBfonds
