Premiere schräg/strich at the invitation of the Salzburger Festspiele
Despite everything, a lot is happening in the field of talent development and internationalization! At the invitation of the Salzburg Festival (Austria), Oorkaan has made an international co-production for ages 10 and up. In Austria, that's when you already go to high school! The residual result: schräg/strich with the young, brilliant Beija-flor Quartet.

"Salzburg Festival's youth programming will launch a fireworks display of ideas for the next generation in the extended anniversary year," the website reads.
Every summer since 1920, Salzburg has hosted the Salzburg Festival. This year, obviously a year later, the 100th anniversary will be celebrated. The festival enjoys worldwide fame in the fields of classical music, opera and theater. In this anniversary year, youth programming will be added for the first time, under the name "Jung&Jede*r. Programming was in the hands of Anne-Kathrin Ostrop (Komische Oper Berlin) and Rainer O. Brinkmann (Berlin Staatsoper).
Oorkaan is extremely proud to have been invited by one of the world's most important festivals of classical music. Caecilia Thunnissen was asked to create a brand new co-production on behalf of Oorkaan. This culminated in "schräg/strich" with the Beija-flor string quartet, for an audience of 10+. The musicians, originally from Japan, Turkey, France and Brazil, study their Masters at the renowned Mozarteum conservatory in Salzburg.
In this international setting, a beautiful theatrical concert was created using the Oorkaan method, with music by Mozart and Debussy. Caecilia Thunnissen, who won the YAMAward last year with Kriebel, directed in collaboration with her own team. Composer David Dramm artfully forged together Mozart's and Debussy's string quartet. Prior to rehearsals, the musicians received training from Oorkaan's regular trainers: Esther Snelder and Gerindo Kartadinata. Set and lighting design was by Morgana Machado Marques, costume was designed by Merel van Marken Lichtenbelt, and dramaturgy was in the hands of Yorick Stam.
The premiere of schräg/strich is on Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. at the Salzburg Museum, during the Salzburg Festival, and then plays on Aug. 8, 11, 17, and 22. Will you happen to be in Austria then? Then buy HERE your ticket.
