Party si Pears at the Grachtenfestival

A participatory concert with the EDSON ENSEMBLE led by Oorkaan & Sounds of Change

HOW DOES JOINING SOUND?
Together with the musicians of the Edson Ensemble, the children will create a mini performance for the adult audience in the auditorium. The Edson Ensemble is a chamber jazz ensemble of five musicians from Lithuania, based in Amsterdam. They bring together classical and jazz by presenting new compositions and iconic jazz tunes in the form of chamber music, from Chick Corea, Charles Mingus, Anton Goudsmit to Vince Mendoza. Afterwards, everyone can keep swinging with the silent disco while enjoying a snack and a drink!

The Edson Ensemble won the Oorkaan Prize at this year's Grachtenfestival pitch. Director Yorick Stam of Oorkaan and participation trainers Lucas Dols and Han in 't Veld of Sounds of Change, gave the musicians of this ensemble a three-day Masterclass that resulted in the participation concert "Party si Peren."

Youth music company Oorkaan performs theatrical concerts for young audiences with professional musicians. According to the Oorkaan method - developed by artistic director Caecilia Thunnissen - directors create music performances in which only musicians are on stage and music and the physical is the language.

Sounds of Change uses the power of music to empower its people to create social change. They do this by training local people to use music during their work with children and youth in refugee and disadvantaged neighborhoods in Greece, the Netherlands and the Middle East.
