Four Seasons Fly By
How does it sound?
How does cocky sound? Fleeing the Italian police, inventor and pizza chef Daedalus and his son Icarus have ended up in the Dutch village of Moer aan Zee. Soon their pizzeria Pinocchio is wildly popular. Daedalus invents the Quattro Stagioni pizza especially for the village's 999th anniversary. But the past haunts them and there seems to be no escape....
On Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14, 2009, the new music performance Four Seasons Fly By premiered at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Ensemble I Musici Amsterdam plays the masterpiece The Four Seasons by Vivaldi while actress Esther de Koning as pizza chef Daedalus narrated a quirky but incredibly exciting version of the Greek myth of Icarus. The audience hung on their lips and broke out into thunderous applause after the performance.
Last played May 9, 2010.

Anita Twaalfhoven wrote on Feb. 24 in Trouw: '[...] Multitalented Esther de Koning wrote the text, directed and stars in this Mediterranean drama full of mafiosi and beautiful music. The musicians are on stage with fun eyes. That mood makes a fresh wind blow through the classical masterpiece: the compositions seem to have been written yesterday and not in 1725. [...]'
And the Volkskrant gave 4 stars on March 2, saying: '[...] Whether lightning is striking or the wind is comforting, De Koning leaves plenty of room for the freshly played composition. Just as easily, she interrupts the music to give her story another twist, from scooter ride to oiled kitchen. An excellent way to detach Vivaldi's Four Seasons from its clichés and still easily "slide" it in with children..'
